NHL schedule: Five questions for Wednesday

Bruce Bennett

A daily feature which asks the five hardest-hitting questions imaginable about this day in the NHL. Will our quandaries be answered? (That doesn't count as one of our questions.)

1. Will the Philadelphia Flyers' special teams play improve against the Pittsburgh Penguins?

When these two teams met on the opening day of the season, the Penguins won the special teams battle by killing off all five of the Flyers' power plays and scoring on two of their three man-advantages. Entering Wednesday night, the Flyers have killed off 21 consecutive penalties over the span of their last six games. Will the club continue to build off this performance? Or will they repeat their performance from opening day?

2. How will Tomas Vokoun perform in his first game in the Flyers-Penguins rivalry?

Instead of starting Marc-Andre Fleury, head coach Dan Bylsma opted to go with Vokoun because he wants him to get in a game against the Flyers this season. Obviously, Vokoun has spent a considerable amount of time in the Eastern Conference and has played the Flyers before. In 21 career starts against Philadelphia, Vokoun has an 8-9-2 record with a 2.74 goals against average, .915 save percentage and a shutout. Will the Penguins logo make any difference?

3. Will we see any fireworks between/from Claude Giroux and Sidney Crosby?

Get ready for it, because the matchup between Crosby and Giroux is going to be overhyped for the rest of forever. Luckily, both players are awesome so it should live up to the billing on most nights.

Will they both have explosive offensive nights? Will they get into a fight? Maybe both? Anything is possible on Rivalry Wednesday.

4. Can the St. Louis Blues rebound on the tail end of a back-to-back?

After being stranded at an airport in Vancouver for 15 hours, the Blues had to play the struggling San Jose Sharks and lost by a final score of 2-1. Now, the team will be back on the road as they challenge the Colorado Avalanche. Will they be able to rebound? Or will all the travelling impair their performance?

5. How will Joey MacDonald fare in his home debut?

The Calgary Flames picked up Joey MacDonald off waivers because they needed goaltending depth after Miikka Kiprusoff went down with injury. MacDonald is excited to make his debut in front of the Flames' fans. Will they be as excited to see him?
