NHL schedule: Five questions for Thursday

USA TODAY Sports

A daily feature which asks the five hardest-hitting questions imaginable about this day in the NHL. Will our quandaries be answered? (That doesn't count as one of the five questions.)

1. Will Vincent Lecavalier extend his five-game point streak?

Lecavalier will be bringing a five-game point streak into Thursday night's game between the Boston Bruins and his Lightning. The Tampa Bay captain has registered two goals and three assists over the course of the streak. Lecavalier is one of several Lightning players carrying point streaks into the contest (Martin St. Louis, Benoit Pouliot and Steven Stamkos), but given that he is the captain and his has gone the longest, we want to know if he can keep it going.

2. Will Matt Read continue his domination of the Florida Panthers?

Matt Read has scored four goals this season in two games against the Panthers. After notching a hat trick in their first meeting, Read added another goal in their second meeting. Given that Thursday will mark the third and final time that the clubs will meet in the regular season this year, will Read be able to continue his strong performance against the club?

This is kind of a trick question because Read's status has yet to be determined. Having suffered an upper-body injury against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night, Read might not be in the lineup on Thursday.

3. Will there be any carryover from the New York Rangers playoff series with the Ottawa Senators?

The two teams meet in the playoffs last year in a heated seven game series. Ottawa forward Chris Neil laid a big-hit on Brian Boyle that was controversial and concussed Boyle. members of the Rangers have said that the series is in the past. But is it really?

4. Is Jimmy Howard's eyesight truly improved?

During the Detroit Red Wings game against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night, Howard left the game with blurred vision. After undergoing tests on Wednesday, his vision returned. He stated on Thursday that he feels fine and that nothing is wrong. Is this truly the case?

5. How will the first game of the post-Lindy Ruff era go in Buffalo?

Ruff had been in charge since 1997. On Thursday night, the Sabres will have their first new coach since then, when Ron Rolston takes his spot behind the bench. Will it have any impact on the Sabres poor start to 2013?
