NHL schedule: Five questions for Friday

Jonathan Daniel

A daily feature which asks the five hardest-hitting questions imaginable about this day in the NHL. Will our quandaries be answered? (That doesn't count as one of the five questions.)

1. Will the Chicago Blackhawks make history against the San Jose Sharks?

In case you haven't heard, the Blackhawks are one point away from setting an NHL record for most consecutive games to start a season without a regulation loss. Currently tied with the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks with 16 consecutive games, the Blackhawks can claim sole ownership of the record with a win or tie on Friday.

2. How will Marian Hossa play?

Hossa sustained a hit to the head on Wednesday night that wasn't a concussion. Despite lying on the ice for a while, Hossa underwent tests on Thursday and is apparently feeling good on Friday. He says he is ready to go and is coming off an impressive performance on Wednesday. Will there be any residual effects from the hit?

3. Will the San Jose Sharks score more than two goals on Friday?

The Sharks have lost seven of eight games in February. During that span they have scored more than two goals only once. The one time? Against the Blackhawks. However, Chicago is averaging the second most goals for per game this season (3.31) and are allowing the second fewest (1.94).

4. Will the Vancouver Canucks extend their point streak?

Less impressive than the Blackhawks, but still an accomplishment none the less, the Canucks have recorded points in three-straight games. Facing the Nashville Predators on Friday night, will Vancouver push their streak to four-games?

5. Will either one of the Florida Panthers or Pittsburgh Penguins score five goals on Friday?

The Panthers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers by a final score of 5-2 on Thursday night. The Pittsburgh Penguins also scored five goals against the Flyers, but lost 6-5 on Wednesday night. Will any of this offensive fire power carry over to Friday night?
