Malkin's placement on injured reserve will be retroactive to Feb. 22, when he suffered a head injury during a game against the Florida Panthers. The team later diagnosed the injury as a concussion, which substantiated a report from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that stated that Malkin was suffering from headaches and disorientation.
Malkin sustained the injury during the third period of the game against the Panthers. After colliding with Florida defenseman Erik Gudbranson, Malkin fell back into the boards, which also resulted in his head making impact.
As of Monday afternoon, the Penguins have yet to release any kind of time-table for an expected return from Malkin.
