The Red Wings and Kings have recovered from uneven starts to the season and now face off Wednesday night in the second game of NBC Sport Network's Rivalry Wednesday series.
The Detroit Red Wings travel to Los Angeles to take on the Kings in a battle between two teams grappling for playoff positioning in the West.
The Red Wings have seemingly recovered from a five-game skid with two dominating performances in a row. After going 0-3-2 to fall out of the playoff race in the West, Detroit has outscored their opponent 12-3 in wins over the Nashville Predators and Vancouver Canucks on back-to-back nights over the weekend. The two wins also saw the return of a successful power play, going 4-for-7 with the man advantage in the two wins.
Detroit must face a Kings team that has now won four straight games to climb right back into the Western Conference hunt. Los Angeles had struggled mightily to start the season and fought to live up to lofty expectations after a Cup win last summer, falling to 3-5-2 on the season before finally turning things around.
The improvement in the standings comes with improvement in net, as Jonathan Bernier has helped to settle down Jonathan Quick; winning six of the past seven games, the Kings have allowed just seven goals and more than one goal just once -- a 5-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Monday.
