Boston University and Northeastern University kick off the 2013 Beanpot at 5 p.m. Monday.
The 2013 Men's Beanpot tournament begins when Boston University challenges Northeastern at 5 p.m., ET on Monday night.
This will mark the 61st running of the tournament, which features the four big college hockey schools in the Boston, Massachusetts area. Each year since 1952-53, Boston College, Boston University, Harvard and North Eastern face each other in a two-round tournament that rotates opponents every year.
The winner of Boston University-Northeastern will advance to the championship round, while the loser will play in a consolation game. Each game of the tournament will be hosted at TD Garden in Boston.
Boston University enters this year's tournament as the No. 13 team in the nation with a 10-7-1 record. The team will look to rebound from a 3-2 overtime loss to Boston College in last year's championship game.
The school's last Beanpot championship came in 2008-09 against Northeastern. Over the last 19 years, either Boston College or Boston University have won the tournament.
Northeastern enters ranked last in Hockey East with a 4-11-3 record on the year. The team's last tournament championship came in 1988.
Monday's game will be televised on NESN in the Boston and New England area. It can be heard on commercial radio atWWZN 1510 AM and WRCA 1330 AM, and student radio at WTBU 89.3 FM, 640 AM and WRBB 104.9 FM.
