BOSTON -- After two periods of play in the Beanpot Tournament semifinal at TD Garden, the Northeastern Huskies are certainly playing like they seek to end their quarter-century drought as they took a 2-1 lead on the Boston University Terriers - a team they have already topped this year, just a few weeks ago at Agganis Arena.
Each side tallied nine shots in the stanza with a 21-19 edge for the Terriers in shots on goal after two periods.
The Terriers controlled the opening stages of the second period, handling the puck for considerable stretches early in their offensive zone.
Freshman Matt O'Connor came up big as NU spent nearly the entirety of their power play as BU senior Sean Escobedo went off for tripping at 5:40. As the penalty came to an end, O'Connor made a flurry of outstanding saves, including a point-blank stop with the shoulder on rookie Kevin Roy.
In the end, Roy was able to find the back of the net as he tallied his second of the game at the 12:36 mark of the second, beating O'Connor out of his position as he went to play the puck in the middle of the slot. BU senior Ben Rosen left his rookie stopper out to dry as Roy touched the biscuit into an open net.
