New York Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi will not be available to play in the team's game against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night due to an undisclosed injury, according to Andrew Gross of The Bergen Record.
Gross did not participate in practice on Monday and stated that he was fine. When asked by Gross whether he was okay, Girardi explained that he was and that he was not practicing due to a maintenance day.
On Tuesday night, the Rangers official statement diagnosed Girardi as banged up and projected that he would be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
According to Gross, the injury could have been sustained in the team's 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night when Girardi took a shot off his skate.
With Girardi out of the lineup, the team's defense pairs ran the following rushes in warmups, courtesy of The Record:
Ryan McDonagh - Anton Stralman
Marc Staal - Michael Del Zotto
Matt Gilroy - Stu Bickel
