Stars vs. Oilers preview: Edmonton without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on Weds. night

The Edmonton Oilers (4-3-2) will host the Dallas Stars (4-5-1) on Wednesday night at Rexall Place.

It will be the first of three meetings between the two teams this season.

The Oilers will be looking to record their first win in three contests. Despite earning two points in two of their last three, the team hasn't recorded a win since defeating the Phoenix Coyotes in overtime last Wednesday. In total, the team has only recorded one regulation win this season and have required overtime in more than half of their games (five times).

Edmonton will need to do so without the help of their first-line center, as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will not be available for the game due to injury. Nugent-Hopkins received a hard hit in the team's 3-2 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night and is still sore.

While head coach Ralph Krueger stated that Nugent-Hopkins could have played, he expressed that the organization didn't want the young star playing if he wasn't 100 percent ready to.

It is believed that 24-year-old American Hockey League call-up Mark Arcobello will take Nugent-Hopkins' place on the top-line with Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle.

In addition to Nugent-Hopkins, captain Shawn Horcoff and Eric Belanger will not be playing due to injury.

Dallas will be entering the night as winners in two of their last three games.

Stars forward Jamie Benn registered two goals in the team's most recent effort, propelling the club to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night. This marked only the second road victory of the season for the Stars as the club has amassed a 2-4-0 record away from American Airlines Center.

Defenseman Alex Goligoski has been announced as a healthy scratch, with Philip Larsen taking over his spot in the lineup.

Devan Dubnyk (4-3-2; .925 save percentage, 2.56 GAA) has been confirmed as the starter for Edmonton and will likely face Kari Lehtonen (4-2-1; .925 save percentage, 2.54 GAA).

Wednesday night's game is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m., ET and will be televised on FS-Southwest+ and TSN.
