Oilers vs. Red Wings: Jeff Petry ties the game for the wrong team

Russell LaBounty-USA TODAY Sports

Oops.

For about two periods against Detroit on Friday, the Oilers played pretty well. They got a two-goal lead in the first period and hung on with some pretty solid play through two periods.

And then they looked in a mirror or something during the second intermission and remembered they were the Edmonton Oilers.

At least Jeff Petry did. Detroit had already pulled within one goal before they went on the power play with about five minutes left in the game. Devan Dubnyk made a pad save and Petry tried to clear the puck into the corner.

Instead he tapped it into his own net. Tie game. Just like that.

Ouch. You have to feel a little bad for him.
