Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey was hit with a puck in the third period of the team's 3-2 overtime victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night. According to Ansar Khan of MLive.com, Detroit doesn't want the 27-year-old defenseman traveling because they fear his cheek bone is fractured. Khan reports that there is apparently no x-ray equipment at Rexall Place, the Oilers' 39-year-old arena.
Detroit coach Mike Babcock was not pleased. "Docs want him to stay here. They don't want any pressure, so they'll get him looked at,'' Babcock said. "There's no X-ray, I can't believe that." Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press confirmed that Quincey will stay in Edmonton to be re-evaluated while the Red Wings travel on to Vancouver.
Quincey's injury may leave an opportunity for fellow defender Ian White, who has been scratched in seven of Detroit's last eight games, to return to the lineup. The Red Wings are also carrying Kent Huskins as an extra defenseman.
