A Detroit Red Wing scored a hat trick on Friday night, but it wasn't Pavel Datsyuk. It also wasn't Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen or anyone you'd actually expect to score a hat trick.
Instead, it was Justin Abdelkader.
Abdelkader scored the first hat trick of his career on Friday night thanks to Datsyuk's 500th career assist in the second period. Quite the odd couple, no? Meanwhile, the third period hasn't even started yet and the Wings are up, 4-1, in Anaheim.
As you might expect, hockey fans were a bit incredulous. Red Wing fans, meanwhile, were quite pleased with the evening's events.
Pavs' 500th career assist on Abby's first career hat trick. I kind of like hockey tonight.
