Jarome Iginla traded to Bruins, according to reports

Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE

Calgary will receive Matt Bartkowski, Alex Khokhlachev and a firs- round pick for their captain.

The Calgary Flames have parted with long-time captain Jarome Iginla, sending him to Boston in exchange for Matt Bartkowski, Alex Khokhlachev and a conditional 2013 first round pick, according to TSN's Aaron Ward.

Iginla is in the final year of his five-year contract and comes with a cap hit of $7 million this year. According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the first round pick that the Flames acquired is conditional: if Iginla re-signs with Boston, then the Flames receive Boston's first-round pick.

These trade winds were swirling for hours leading up to the official announcement, and apparently the two teams have been discussing the trade for the past few days. It was reported that Iginla had left the Saddledome and would not return. And as we all waited for the eventual breaking news, fans started sharing their favorite Iginla moments on Twitter.

It was obviously a huge moment in the hockey world, and was treated as such.

Iginla played all 18 seasons as a pro in Calgary ever since he was traded by the Dallas Stars for Joe Nieuwendyk in 1995. (That worked out well for both sides, huh?) Named the captain in 2003, Iginla has scored 516 goals and tallied 557 assists in his career.

He's a skilled power forward that, on paper, will fit right in with the physical game the Bruins like to play.

As for the return for Calgary, the Flames are getting two of Boston's young prospects. Bartkowski is a 24-year-old defenseman that has played in just nine NHL games. Khokhlachev, a center, was drafted 40th overall in 2011 and is considered one of Boston's top prospects.
