Lubomir Visnovsky re-signs with Islanders

The defenseman has reportedly signed a new contract worth $9.5 million over two years.

The New York Islanders have reportedly re-signed pending unrestricted free agent Lubomir Visnovsky.

Newsday's Arthur Staple broke the news on Twitter:

The 36-year-old defenseman has three goals and six assists through 22 games this season. He is third on the team in plus-minus and is regularly one of the team's leaders in ice time.

The Islanders have surprised many this season by competing for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They entered Friday with 35 points, tied with the New York Rangers for the eight seed in the East. The Islanders have played one more game than the Rangers.

Now that Visnovsky is re-signed, the biggest question mark for the team is Mark Streit, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season if he doesn't get a new deal.
