This Hurricanes-Panthers mini-series has not been good for goaltenders. On Saturday night, Florida lost Jose Theodore to what could be a season-ending groin tear, and the Hurricanes might've just lost their own starting netminder.
Carolina goaltender Cam Ward was injured when he collided with Jack Skille off a scoring chance. The play knocked Ward and the net back a few feet, and Ward was very slow to get up. The trainer came out, but Ward opted to play through the pain and stay in the game. That was a poor choice.
On the very next shot by the Panthers, Ward seemed to aggravate whatever injury he had just taken, to the point where he immediately collapsed in pain. Ward had to be helped off the ice and Dan Ellis replaced him in net. We'll have more when the Hurricanes update everyone on his status.
