Richards was administered a punishing blow from Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta on Sunday afternoon, when Kaleta hit Richards from behind with a cross-check. Kaleta was ultimately suspended five games for the hit. Richards left the game for a short period before returning.
However, he stated that he was still feeling sore from the play and was unable to practice on Monday.
Richards came onto the ice for a short period of time on Tuesday morning but returned to the dressing room and did not address the media after practice. The Rangers later announced that they had recalled forward Michael Haley from the American Hockey League, which increased speculation that Richards will be unavailable.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the team has yet to address Richards' status for the contest or announce any kind of injury.
