Chris Bourque placed on waivers by Bruins

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Bruins have placed Chris Bourque on waivers. If he clears by noon on Friday, the club will be able to assign him to the American Hockey League.

The Boston Bruins placed forward Chris Bourque on waivers on Thursday afternoon, according to multiple reports.

If he clears waivers by noon on Friday, Boston will be able to assign him to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

Chris is the son of Bruins' legend Raymond Bourque. He was acquired by the team this past offseason via trade with the Washington Capitals. In exchange for Bourque, the Capitals received forward Zach Hamill. Bourque made the Bruins out of training camp this season and recorded a goal, three assists, four points and six penalty minutes in 18 games played.

Prior to this year, he had only played in 33 career NHL regular season games. Originally chosen with the No. 33 overall selection in the 2004 NHL Draft by Washington, Bourque also spent time with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

With Bourque out of the lineup, it is believed that Jay Pandolfo will take over his spot on the third line with Chris Kelly and Rich Peverley.
