The NHL has postponed Monday's game between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators due to the ongoing situation at the Boston Marathon, where two bombs were detonated and at least two people were killed near the finish line of the 2013 race.
The league officially announced the postponement at 4:55 p.m., about two hours after the first explosion was reported near Copley Square. No postponement date has been announced.
"The National Hockey League wishes to express its sympathy to all affected by the tragic events that took place in Boston earlier this afternoon," the league said in a press release.
It's Patriots' Day in Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, commemorating the first battles of the American Revolution. The Red Sox typically play a home game at Fenway Park on Patriots' Day in addition to the Marathon, but Bruins games are more rare given that the beginning of the NHL playoffs typically falls around the holiday.
