The Boston Police Department officially confirmed that Friday night's game between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins has been postponed in order to support the efforts of local law enforcement.
Given the gravity of the situation in relation to the pursuit of one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing, Boston has shut down the majority of the city. This includes all sporting and entertainment events scheduled for Friday night.
The NHL announced that Friday night's game has been tentatively rescheduled for Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m., ET. The game's status will be formally determined by 8:30 a.m., ET on Saturday morning.
The Penguins were originally scheduled to host the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. This game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m., ET.
This is the third game postponed for the Bruins this season. Two games have been postponed this week due to the Boston Marathon incident. The other contest was postponed due to a snow storm.
