The Colorado Avalanche won the 2013 NHL Draft Lottery on Monday night and will have the first overall selection in June 30's draft.Colorado had an 18.8 percent chance of winning the lottery.
With the Avalanche claiming ownership to the No. 1 overall selection, the Florida Panthers will move down one spot to the No. 2 overall selection.
Now, discussion will move to who will be selected with the pick. According to NHL Central Scouting, Portland Winterhawks defenseman Seth Jones is the No. 1 ranked North American skater, followed by Halifax Mooseheads' forwards Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin. Aleksander Barkov of the Finnish Elite League is the No. 1 ranked international player, followed by Valeri Nichushkin out of Russia and Elias Lindholm of the Swedish Elite League.
By most accounts, Jones is considered the top prospect in this year's class.
The 2013 NHL Draft will be held at Prudential Center in New Jersey. All seven rounds will be held on Sunday, June 30.
