Jason Pominville traded to Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild made another blockbuster move on Wednesday, trading for veteran winger Jason Pominville.

The Minnesota Wild have traded for Buffalo Sabres captain Jason Pominville, according to multiple reports. Michael Russo reports that the Sabres receive prospects Johan Larsson and Matt Hackett in exchange for Pominville, with draft picks possibly involved as well.

Pominville was a No. 55 overall draft pick in 2001 and has spent his entire career with the Buffalo Sabres, making his NHL debut in 2003. The veteran winger instantly became a top producer for the Sabres, hand has topped 20 goals a season in six straight years and currently has 10 goals and 25 points in 37 games in 2013.

The 30-year old winger's best season came in 2007-2008, putting up 27 goals and 80 points as he quickly became a strong leader for the Sabres and eventually was named the captain of the team. The Sabres have floundered the past few seasons, however, and this could be one of the first big moves made by Buffalo that could signal the start of the rebuild that GM Darcy Regier has hinted could be on its way.

The Minnesota Wild made a big push last summer with the signing of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, and now sit No. 3 in the Western Conference with a 8-2-0 record in their past ten games.
