NHL trade deadline: Raffi Torres traded to Sharks

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Coyotes traded forward Raffi Torres to the San Jose Sharks.

The San Jose Sharks have acquired forward Raffi Torres from the Phoenix Coyotes, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN on Wednesday afternoon.

In exchange for Torres, the Coyotes have acquired a third-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Torres is playing in the final year of a two-year, $3.5 million contract that carries an annual average value of $1.75 million against the salary cap. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this July.

In 28 games this season, Torres has registered five goals and seven assists for a total of 12 points. He is averaging 12:59 of ice-time, which includes an average of 1:21 on the power play. With San Jose trading Ryane Clowe to the New York Rangers on Tuesday afternoon, many believe the Sharks view Torres as a replacement for the remainder of the season.

In 619 career NHL regular season games, Torres has compiled 132 goals, 117 assists, 249 points and 486 penalty minutes.
