After playing most of the year for the San Jose Sharks and failing to score a single goal, Ryane Clowe had one in his first game as a New York Ranger.
Oh, and he added an assist too.
Prior to the goal, Clowe had been the league's leader in shots without scoring with 65. Now that honor falls to Derek Morris of Phoenix, with 55 shots and no goals so far this year.
The Rangers have to be happy with Clowe's sudden offensive surge. The team traded away Marian Gaborik earlier Wednesday who, despite underperforming this season, had been tied for third on the Rangers with 19 points.
Clowe was acquired by the Rangers from San Jose in exchange for several draft picks. If he continues to provide some offense, it will help the team deal with the loss of Gaborik.
The Rangers led the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-0, at the end of the first period.
UPDATE: The score is now 5-1 Rangers, and Ryane Clowe has scored another goal. He has three points on the night...so far.
Derek Brassard, whom the Rangers acquired along with several other players in exchange for Gaborik, also has a goal and two assists.
