Bruins vs. Maple Leafs Game 6 Recap: Toronto stays alive thanks to Reimer

Abelimages

James Reimer was perfect and the Maple Leafs made the Bruins pay for mistakes in the third period.

The series between the Bruins and the Maple Leafs is going back to Boston.

The Maple Leafs needed a win to avoid elimination on their home ice, and they got it thanks to an outstanding game from goaltender James Reimer and two goals in the third period.

The third period began with the game tied 0-0, but it wouldn't take long for the Leafs to open the scoring with this goal from Dion Phaneuf:

Near the midpoint of the final period, Toronto would strike again. The Leafs won a face-off after an icing call against the Bruins, and Phil Kessel gave Toronto a 2-0 lead:

And there was much rejoicing outside the arena in Toronto:

Those two goals would be the only ones scored until Boston managed a tally with Rask out of the net for an extra attacker. The Bruins couldn't manage the equalizer though, and the Leafs held on for the victory. The Bruins would finish the game with 30 shots, but only one found the back of the net.

Let's take a look at the three big questions we were tracking in Sunday night's contest.

Can the Leafs finally win a home game?

They finally did, and they picked a really great time to do it.

Does James Reimer's remarkable run continue?

Reimer stopped 29 of 30 shots and was named the first star of the game. He outplayed Tuukka Rask and held on to Toronto's lead late when the Bruins were pressing hard.

Who steps up and gets a big goal for Boston?

Milan Lucic scored the only goal for the Bruins with less than a minute remaining, but it was too little, too late.

The series is tied 3-3. Game seven is in Boston on Monday night.
