The Los Angeles Kings opened the second period against the San Jose Sharks with a 1-0 lead, after Jeff Carter scored early in the first. The Kings would extend their advantage with another early goal, as Drew Doughty scored on a power play after a nice backhand pass from Brad Richardson:
It took just under 100 minutes (99.47 to be precise) for the Sharks to get own past Quick - and they practically passed it into the net.— Eric Duhatschek (@eduhatschek) May 17, 2013
Things took an ugly turn late in the period when Jeff Carter took a penalty for charging after this hit on Marc-Edouard Vlasic:
Vlasic went straight to the dressing room after the hit.
The Sharks led in shots, 24-13, after 40 minutes of play.
