The Boston Bruins dominated the first period of Game 4 against the New York Rangers but were unable to score. They finally made it on the board 4:39 into the second when Nathan Horton scored on the power play. The goal came after Kris Newbury took a penalty for running into Tuukka Rask and on the penalty-kill Michael Del Zotto inadvertently directed the puck right to Horton:
Things just got worse for Del Zotto, as he followed up this gaffe with a penalty of his own a few minutes later, which gave Torey Krug a chance to score the second power-play goal of the period for the Bruins:
It looked bad for the Rangers, but they did get a bit of help from this awkward mistake from Rask, which gave them a fluke goal and cut the Bruins' lead in half:
The Bruins led 2-1 at the second intermission. They led in shots 21-12.
