Jamal Mayers fined for shooting pucks at Wings net in warmups

USA TODAY Sports

Jamal Mayers is a little lighter in the wallet after being fined by the NHL.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Jamal Mayers was fined half a day's pay for shooting at the Detroit Red Wings net during warmups before Game 5. The fine comes out to roughly $1,600.

Mayers flipped a handful of shots from the Blackhawks' side of the red line through the Red Wings team and at the net. Detroit didn't seem to take notice of the pucks coming in from the Chicago side of the ice, but the NHL did.

"I was trying to get under their skin," Mayers told Craig Custance. "The league fined me and took the appropriate action. I'll pay the piper."

Mayers has not played in the playoffs. He has been a healthy scratch for every game after playing just 19 games during the regular season.
