New York Islanders fans have waited a long time to see another playoff game at Nassau Coliseum, and their team did not disappoint in the early minutes of Saturday's Game 3 against the PIttsburgh Penguins.
Yes, the early minutes only.
In front of a boisterous Coliseum crowd, who hadn't seen a home playoff game since 2007, Matt Moulson opened scoring 1:43 into the game. Casey Cizikas followed three minutes later to make it 2-0 off of a quick feed from Michael Grabner behind the net.
The Islanders also drew the first two penalties within the first eight minutes but failed to score on either opportunity. The Islanders were outshooting the Penguins 10-4 before the Penguins quickly got back into the game on the back of two power play goals.
That would be enough goals for one period. The Penguins led the Islanders 3-2 at the first intermission.
