Wild vs. Blackhawks Game 3 Update: Duncan Keith's late goal forces overtime

USA TODAY Sports

The Wild outplayed the Blackhawks through three periods, but this game requires overtime.

The Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks are headed to overtime in Game 3 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series. They ended regulation tied at 2-2.

Facing the prospect of a 3-0 series deficit if they lose this one, the Wild pressed through all three periods, outhitting the Blackhawks 31-13 and outshooting them 36-25 through regulation.

Zach Parise's impressive third-period goal looked like it could be the difference...

... but Duncan Keith blasted a shot past Josh Harding with 2:46 to go in regulation. Keith accepted a feed from Patrick Kane after Kane received a drop pass from Patrick Sharp. With plenty of time to shoot and bodies in front of Minnesota goalie Josh Harding, Keith had a good screen and golden opportunity to tie the game.

It is the second game of the day to head to overtime, and both games feature matchups between the respective first and eighth seeds in the Western and Easteron conferences. Earlier in the day on Long Island, the East's top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins beat the eighth-seed New York Islanders in overtime, 5-4.
