Kings, Ducks to play outdoor game at Dodger Stadium in 2014

The NHL has announced the second game in the 2014 Stadium Series, which will feature the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings.

The Los Angeles Kings will host the Anaheim Ducks in an outdoor game at Dodger Stadium in 2014, the league announced Monday.

The game will take place on Jan. 25, 2014 and will be part of the 2014 Coors Light Stadium Series, which will feature multiple outdoor games independent to the Winter Classic.

This contest will represent a dramatic shift from the marketing of previous events, as the projected weather for game day is above 80 degrees. Given that the outdoor games have been a chance for the league to celebrate its traditional past, this event is seemingly a way to celebrate modern expansion. With previous contests fashioned with fake snow and tuques, it will be hard to imagine the same decorum representing this game.

The contest will mark the second time that Los Angeles has played an outdoor game. In 1991, the Kings faced the New York Rangers in an outdoor exhibition game at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. It was the first outdoor game in NHL history.

This is the second contest of the Stadium Series, as the NHL announced at the start of May that the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks would play an outdoor game at Soldier Field. It has been reported that three more games are expected to be announced as part of the Stadium Series.
