Senators vs. Canadiens Game 5 Update: Budaj looks rusty as Ottawa scores 2

USA TODAY Sports

The Canadiens are going to need Peter Budaj to get better in a hurry if they want to avoid elimination.

The Montreal Canadiens, down 3-1 in their series against the Ottawa Senators, are looking to avoid an upset first-round elimination on home ice in Game 5. They'll have to do it without starting goalie Carey Price, though, as he suffered an injury in Game 4 and won't be coming back for the rest of the opening round. Montreal is instead relying on backup Peter Budaj to keep them alive.

Craig Anderson held down the fort early as the Canadiens came out hard in the first few minutes:

But it was Ottawa that would get the opening goal, as Zack Smith scored his first career playoff goal on this ugly rebound:

Come on, Budaj, you're going to have to do better than that.

Uh oh. That was another goal for the Senators in the first period, this time from Cory Conacher. At least it wasn't quite as ugly as the first goal, if we're looking at the bright side for the Canadiens.

Montreal finally got on the board on a late power play after Daniel Alfredsson was called for interference. P.K. Subban scored this huge goal with only 15 seconds remaining in the period:

When the period ended, the score was 2-1 in favor of the Senators.
