Bruins vs. Blackhawks Game 1 update: Boston strikes first


Corey Crawford made several big saves in the opening period, but the Bruins broke through with the first goal of the series.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Boston Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks got underway after some rousing pre-game ceremonies and one heck of an anthem in Chicago, and it's the Bruins who came out of the first period with the 1-0 lead.

The first huge save of the series came from Corey Crawford just past the midway point of the period. Brent Seabrook was guilty of a bad turnover, and Brad Marchand had the shot, but Crawford was there with the flashy glove save:

A few minutes later, the Bruins would open the scoring after their strong forecheck allowed David Krejci to make a play behind the net and feed the puck to Nathan Horton, who then fed Milan Lucic for the goal:


The Bruins led in shots, 11-8, at the first intermission.
