The entire hockey world sat and watched the awkward imagery. Jonathan Toews, the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, just sitting on the bench for the entire third period in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. All because of, seemingly, a hit by Johnny Boychuk, who nailed Toews as he came across the middle of the ice in the slot in the second period.
It appears that, as many thought, the NHL determined this was a proper hit and is what you're supposed to do when a player crosses to the middle of the ice. It was reported this morning that Boychuk will not face supplemental discipline for his actions, despite Toews' apparent injury. He will not even have a hearing with NHL head of player safety Brendan Shanahan.
Boychuk has been a key asset to the Bruins' defense for a long time now, and this postseason has been no different. The Edmonton native has potted six goals this playoffs, including a game-tying goal in Game 4 of the Final.
