A shot from the Boston Bruins' Shawn Thornton deflected hard up into Andrew Shaw's face with around four minutes remaining in the opening period of Game 6 between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins, cutting Shaw and sending him to the ice as he bled profusely.
Bruins fans, of course, responded with hearty booing:
Shaw, laying in a small pool of blood, was helped to his feet and left for the dressing room to get repaired. The injury appeared to be quite close to the eye and could be the kind of incident in which a visor would have helped, though it was tough to tell initially if that was case.
While Shaw missed time for the Blackhawks, the Bruins were without a player of their own as they were without Jaromir Jagr. Jagr needed to leave the ice after taking a hard hit from Dave Bolland earlier in the first period and has yet to return.
