Tobias Enstrom assaulted and robbed in Sweden

Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

Tobias Enstrom suffered only minor injuries in an assault and robbery in his hometown.

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Tobian Enstrom was assaulted and robbed in Ornskjoldsvik, Sweden on Friday night. The team confirmed the reports out of Sweden about the incident, adding that Enstrom was not seriously injured. Police spokesman Stefan Edin confirmed to the Allehanda newspaper that three men had been arrested in connection to the assault and robbery.

"Apparently Toby was out for dinner with his family and went to pick up the check and went to the ATM to get some money and was robbed by three people," Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff told reporters on Saturday. "Supposedly, to the best of our knowledge those people have been apprehended by police. Toby is fine. He received a minor cut above the eye. He's putting it behind him."

Cheveldayoff's story was consistent with the report from the Allehanda. The Jets' team security has been and will continue to review the incident.

Enstrom struggled with injuries in 2013 and was limited to just 22 games, but he was leading all NHL defensemen in scoring before getting hurt. The 28-year-old signed a five-year, $28.75 million contract extension last summer that will keep him with the same organization that drafted him through the 2017-18 season.
