Dave Bolland traded to Maple Leafs for picks

Many expected Dave Bolland to be traded this offseason. The Blackhawks decided to do so at the 2013 NHL Draft.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Dave Bolland from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for the No. 51 and 117 selections in the 2013 NHL Draft and a fourth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Bolland most recently scored the game-winning goal in the 2013 Stanley Cup Final for Chicago. Despite this, Bolland was rumored to be on the trade block. The decision to do so has been explained as an attempt by the Blackhawks to clear salary cap space, as the cap is declining to $64.3 million next season.

The 27-year-old forward is entering the final-year of a five-year, $16.8 million contract that carries an annual average value of $3.3 million. Bolland finished the 2013 playoffs averaging 13:30 of ice time per game.
