Penguins vs. Bruins Game 3 recap: Boston wins in 2nd overtime

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Bruins won a grueling game, 2-1, in the 2nd overtime and now have a 3-0 series lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After a first overtime that was full of close calls and scoring chances, the Boston Bruins finally managed to get the winning goal at 15:59 of the second overtime period. Patrice Bergeron tipped in the goal to beat Tomas Vokoun:

The goal was assisted by Brad Marchand and Jaromir Jagr.

The goal capped a night of amazing goaltending on both sides. Vokoun made 39 saves in the losing effort, while winning goalie Tuukka Rask allowed just one goal on 54 shots.

The victory gives Boston a 3-0 lead in the series. Game 4 is in Boston on Friday.

Here are the three big questions we were tracking in game three:

Will the Penguins' offense wake up?

This game was about world-class goaltending, not offense. Chris Kunitz had the regulation goal for Pittsburgh.

Can the Bruins keep thriving in Boston?

Pittsburgh played their best game of the series so far in game three, but Boston emerged with yet another victory on home ice.

Who will win the face-off battle?

Pittsburgh dominated in face-offs all night long, finishing with the edge in that category, 51-38, but it ultimately didn't result in a victory.
