Pending-unrestricted free agent Sergei Gonchar stated that he has not signed a contract with a club in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, according to Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Gonchar confirmed that he has received multiple offers from KHL clubs but has not agreed to any of them. This report is in response to a tweet from Dmitry Chesnokov of Puck Daddy that stated Gonchar was closing in on a contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Gonchar played with the club during the 2012 lockout.
The 39-year-old defenseman finished out the final year of a three-year, $16.5 million contract with the Ottawa Senators in 2013. He previously stated that he was interested in playing two more seasons in the NHL and hoped to do so with the Senators. However, Ottawa general manager Bryan Murray made it sound as if Gonchar's time with the club was likely coming to an end.
Whether that proves to be the case remains to be seen.
