Blackhawks vs. Kings Game 4 update: Late goal for Chicago keeps game tied

Harry How

The Kings scored early and the Blackhawks scored late, and the second period ended tied 2-2.

The Kings struck first in the second period, as Dustin Penner beat Corey Crawford with a wrist shot just 2:12 into the middle frame:

It's fair to say that a lot of the blame for that goal belongs to Crawford, who failed to control the rebound on the initial shot.

The Blackhawks had a golden opportunity to tie the game midway through the period when Anze Kopitar took a penalty for shooting the puck over the glass and Chicago had a 5-on-3 power play, but a strong kill by the Kings preserved L.A.'s one-goal lead.

The lead held up for the Kings until 18:21 of the period, when Patrick Kane poked the puck over the line to tie the game:

It was Kane's first goal in the last eight games.

The period ended with the shots tied, 19-19.
