Blackhawks vs. Kings Game 4 recap: Chicago dominates 3rd, takes 3-1 lead in series

Jeff Gross

The Blackhawks beat the Kings, 3-2, and will take a 3-1 series lead back to Chicago.

The third period began with Chicago and Los Angeles tied, but it didn't take long for the Blackhawks to take the lead. They began the period on a power play after Robyn Regehr took a penalty late in the second, and Marian Hossa scored just after the man-advantage ended to give Chicago the 3-2 lead 1:10 into the final period:

The Blackhawks kept up the pressure, and Quick had to be sharp to keep the game from getting completely out of hand:

The Kings struggled to generate any offensive chances of their own. They managed just two shots on goal in the entire third period, even though they enjoyed two power-play opportunities and had Quick pulled for an extra attacker late.

There were no goals in the third after Hossa's early tally, and the game ended with a final score of 3-2. This was the first home loss for the Kings since March 23rd.

Let's take a look at the big questions we were tracking in Game 4:

Can Chicago's defense adjust without Duncan Keith?

The Blackhawks' defense looked just fine, and severely limited the Kings in the final period.

Will Patrick Kane pick it up?

Kane had the second goal of the game for Chicago, which was his first in eight games.

Is Jonathan Quick fully back in playoff form on regular rest?

Quick didn't look to be at his sharpest on Chicago's first goal, but after that he had a strong game. He was the only reason the Kings were still in it late in the third.

Game 5 will be back in Chicago on Saturday.
