Bruins vs. Penguins, Game 4 recap: Boston heads to another Cup Final with 1-0 win

USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Bruins are headed to the Stanley Cup Final, 1-0 winners in Game 4 and 4-0 winners over the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals.

For the second time in three years, the Boston Bruins are heading to the Stanley Cup Final. And the Pittsburgh Penguins, the consensus favorites to win the Eastern Conference all year, have been swept out of the postseason.

Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night was just as close as the final 1-0 score indicated. Tomas Vokoun did literally everything he possibly could have, making 23 saves in the losing effort. But in the end, the Penguins just couldn't get a puck past Tuukka Rask, who stood on his head and earned a shutout win. He did it all series, and again none more so than in the final minute of Game 4.

Boston won the Prince of Wales Trophy on the back of Adam McQuaid's third period goal. It was tipped in front of Vokoun, but there was absolutely no chance the Pens netminder could have stopped it.

It's been an amazing ride for the Boston Bruins -- minutes away from ugly defeat at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, and now Eastern Conference Champions just weeks later. They've lost just one game since that Game 7 win over Toronto, and they head into the Cup Final red hot, having just slayed the dragon that is the Pittsburgh Penguins in dominant fashion.
