Dreger tweeted that the two sides will be discussing an eight-year proposal that carries an annual average value just below $5 million. Based upon the initial tweet, it appeared as though the Maple Leafs had made the offer. However, it remains unclear whether that is the case. Shortly after Dreger tweeted the figure, many voiced their amazement that the team would be willing to offer such a deal.
James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail manually retweeted Dreger and added "Wowow" to the information. Dreger subsequently responded to the tweet by stating that he doesn't believe the Maple Leafs were the ones to make the offer and that it originated from Bozak's representatives at Newport Sports. Dreger subsequently deleted that tweet, likely to free his Twitter feed of an interaction that isn't of his own volition.
Regardless, the situation has generated quite a bit of confusion.
Bozak completed the final year of a two-year, $3 million contract that carried an annual average value of $1.5 million.
