Minnesota Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper found himself in a bad spot on Tuesday night and reacted in the only reasonable way -- he threw his stick in an effort to prevent a goal.
That play works great when you're playing a pickup game of street hockey with your buddies. The only problem is that's an illegal play in the NHL, and it resulted in Dallas Stars defenseman Jordie Benn getting a penalty shot.
It did not end well for Kuemper and the Wild.
For a guy that had scored just two goals in his NHL career prior to that penalty shot, that's a pretty sweet move. Maybe Lindy Ruff should consider using him in his next shootout.
