And then the Staal brothers showed up.
Eric Staal scored a pair of goals just one minute apart to erase a 2-0 Blue Jackets lead, and then less than two minutes after that Jordan Staal did this to Ryan Murray and Bobrovsky to score what would go on to be the game-winner.
With both teams involved in the pile-up of mediocrity that is the Metropolitan Division playoff race, that is a costly loss for the Blue Jackets.
A two-goal lead with 10 minutes to play should be a win just about every time, and letting it slip away is always going to be frustrating. But to turn it into a loss against a team you're in direct competition with for a playoff spot makes it that much worse.
With the win, Carolina moves one point ahead of Columbus in the standings for third place in the Metropolitan Division.
