The injury occurred during the first period of New York's game against Pittsburgh. Dorsett attempted to block a shot from Olli Maatta and was hit in the leg by the puck. He stayed on the ice and finished his shift before coming out. He was initially ruled out of the game with further tests revealing a broken fibula.
The 27-year-old is in his first full season with New York after spending the bulk of the previous five seasons with the Blue Jackets. He's played in 37 games this season, scoring three goals to go along with two assists. He's never been much of a goal scorer, but his point numbers were down from previous seasons. Dorsett is, however, tied for the NHL lead in penalty minutes with 103.
This is the second straight season Dorsett has suffered a significant injury. He was limited to 24 games last season due to a fractured clavicle. Even if Dorsett returns on the longer side of the initial timetable, he should be back in the lineup for at least the last two months of the regular season.
