The Sabres will held a press conference where they announced the hiring of Tim Murray.

The Buffalo Sabres completed their search for a new general manager by announcing the hiring of former Ottawa Senators assistant GM Tim Murray.

The team also hired former Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Craig Patrick as a special assistant.

Buffalo, led by new president of hockey operations Pat LaFontaine, had been searching for a new GM since it fired Darcy Regier and head coach Ron Rolston earlier this season amid one of the worst starts in franchise history.

Murray, who is the nephew of Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray, has been working in the Senators organization since 2007, and served as the team's assistant general manager, as well as the general manager for Ottawa's AHL affiliate.

At his introductory press conference Murray described himself as somewhat aggressive, saying "you gather information and then you make a decision."

He's going to have a lot of decisions to make right from the start, including on the status of interim coach Ted Nolan, as well as what to do with last place roster he's taking over. The is not only at the bottom of the NHL standings, it also has little offensive firepower, has a number questionable contracts on the books, and has to deal with upcoming unrestricted free agents Ryan Miller and Matt Moulson.

By his own admission, no player on the team is untouchable.

"This team is in last place right now," said Murray. "Everyone can be traded."
