The Buffalo Sabres, one of the NHL's worst teams, managed to pull off a rather impressive 3-2 shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. But if you ask the Red Wings they'll probably tell you the referees cost them a win in overtime.
Detroit failed to capitalize on a power play early in the overtime period, but seemingly found redemption just minutes later when Johan Franzen deflected a shot from the point past Sabres goalie Michal Neuvirth. Detroit thought it had won the game, but the referees waved it off due to goaltender interference.
Did the refs get the call right? You be the judge:
It's an iffy call at best, since it looks like Franzen merely obstructed Neuvirth's view while making minimal contact. The no-goal was costly for Detroit and Buffalo later won the game in the shootout.
