After losing Saku Koivu, Mikko Koivu, and Valtteri Filppula before the Winter Olympics even began in Sochi, Finland's center depth was already decimated. Now after the cut off for replacing players has passed, reports out of Finland say that young center Aleksander Barkov will miss the rest of the Olympics with a knee injury.
Barkov suffered the injury in yesterday's game against Norway, a 6-1 win for Finland, during which Barkov played 15:03 and registered 3 shots on goal. Barkov will finish the tournament with 1 assist, 4 shots, and 2 PIM in 2 games played.
Olli Jokinen is now the only NHL level natural center than FInland has, and at 35 that's a large weight to place on his shoulders. Finland will face team Canada tomorrow at noon Eastern Standard Time tomorrow.
