Senators vs. Canadiens: Erik Karlsson assists Zack Smith goal with amazing pass

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

He saucered the heck out of that pass.

If you've watched any sports over the last 50 years then you're quite familiar with the term "threading the needle." Peyton Manning threads the needle every time he fires a football to his receivers through a tight defense. Jimmie Johnson threads the needle when the cars are three-wide at Daytona.

And Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson threads the needle when he makes ridiculous end-to-end passes to set up goals for teammates.

For example, here's Karlsson making the impossible possible with this assist on Zack Smith's second-period goal against Montreal on Saturday.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is what a perfect saucer pass looks like. The Senators lead the Canadiens 4-1 in the third period.
