Jonathan Huberdeau injury: Panthers center exits game with upper-body injury

James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

The reigning rookie of the year won't travel with the team to California.

The Florida Panthers will travel to California without the reigning NHL rookie of the year, as center Jonathan Huberdeau suffered an upper-body injury on Sunday against the Vancouver Canucks.

Huberdeau exited the game in the second period after suffering the injury and didn't return to the ice for the third. The Panthers have not released any information about the extent of the injury, but they did leave a clue for reporters after the game.

The Panthers are on the West Coast until March 25, when they play the Senators at home, so you have to wonder how badly Huberdeau is hurt.

It's the latest setback in what has been a disappointing follow-up to Huberdeau's Calder Trophy-winning rookie season. Huberdeau has just eight goals and 27 points in 65 games this season, which is fewer points than he had in a lockout-shortened 48-game season in 2013.
